AI Meeting Notes & Transcripts

Record conversations, generate summaries and action items, then send follow-ups without rewriting the meeting.

Claude Duet is Anthropic’s research-preview AI agent: a separate app where Claude watches connected work apps, sends a short daily brief, and keeps working on tasks after you step away — then asks before it sends, pays, signs, or deletes. Anthropic opened the preview on 21 October 2026 for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, by waitlist, and designed the product around Claude Opus 5.5.

Coverage from CNBC, Reuters, and Gizmodo framed the launch as Anthropic’s workplace answer to Meta Muse and ChatGPT Dots. Product facts below come from Anthropic’s own post, Introducing Claude Duet, and the Claude Duet help article.

At Knowant, we read agent launches the same way we read a client brief: name the product, say who can actually use it, list what it will not do yet, and keep the mascot commentary in a footnote. If you still need a human-readable meeting record after an agent flags a calendar clash, use AI meeting notes and Write with AI for the follow-up email.

What Is Claude Duet?

Anthropic describes Claude Duet as a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. The sentence that shows up across Anthropic’s post and CNBC’s report is the product in one line: it comes to you with what needs attention, completes tasks you ask for, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.

That is a different job from opening Claude and pasting a prompt. Duet is built for people who already have more on the calendar than they can scan — owners, operators, and professionals — not for a general “book my concert tickets” assistant. Anthropic says personal errands such as booking tickets are not as strong, because the core was built around work.

Gizmodo noted the packaging choice: unlike Muse’s characters or Dots’ blobs, Duet’s mark is the same spare Anthropic scribble. The positioning matches the access rules. There is no free consumer tier in this preview, and you probably cannot try it the day you read about it.

Claude Duet vs a Normal Claude Chat

A Claude chat ends when the reply ends. Duet is judged when the task ends — or when it correctly decides not to bother you.

What Claude Duet Can Do

Anthropic groups the work into three habits.

A morning brief. Each morning Duet sends a short note on the important items across connected apps. Early testers Anthropic quotes used that brief to catch calendar mistakes. Broker Jess Provencher said Duet flagged a property showing that was on the wrong day without being asked. Brand strategist Mya Dalton said it prepared a client-call brief and noticed the call sat right before a flight.

Tasks you hand off. Scheduling is the simple end. The harder examples Anthropic lists are dashboards that touch many tools, financial or sales forecasts, prototypes, and web apps. Restaurant owner Amin Ebrahimi (Shahs of Kabob) is quoted using it across accounting, support, and marketing so he was not opening “100 tabs.” Treat those as Anthropic’s tester stories, not an independent benchmark.

Quiet monitoring. Through the day it watches connected apps and is supposed to message you only when something needs you. You can tell it what to surface and how often. It does not check continuously — Anthropic says nonstop checks would burn plan limits — so an urgent message can land between checks.

Connectors Anthropic names as examples include Gmail and Slack replies, QuickBooks or Stripe invoice reminders, Gusto payroll drafts, LinkedIn job posts after you edit them, DocuSign packets, HubSpot follow-ups, Canva launch campaigns, and Shopify store setup. The marketplace figure Anthropic cites is over 6,000 connectors and plugins. Some of those, including Slack, work with limits inside Duet. Microsoft 365 is not available yet, according to the help center. If your company lives in Outlook and Teams, read AI agents and Microsoft 365 before you plan a rollout.

How Claude Duet Works

Setup is meant to be light because Duet inherits context from your existing Claude account: memory, skills, and connected apps. You then talk to it in one ongoing thread, by typing or voice, whether the job is a quick reply or a week-long project.

The runtime is a virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop or phone does not have to stay on. You describe the task; Duet chooses apps and steps; you get a notification when it finishes or needs review.

Two constraints matter more than the demo reel:

  • You cannot watch the browser or take it over during the preview.
  • You cannot choose a model. Duet runs on Opus 5.5 and decides how much effort a job needs. Pricing, benchmarks, and how it differs from Fable 5.1 are in Claude Opus 5.5 explained. The launch post says “designed around” Opus 5.5; the help center says Duet runs on it. Users do not get a model picker either way.

Availability, Waitlist, and Usage Limits

Anthropic’s help center is stricter than a headline that just says “join the waitlist.”

You need all of the following:

  1. A Pro or Max plan (not Team, not Enterprise, not Free).
  2. A Claude account in the United States.
  3. An invitation. Joining the waitlist does not reserve a date. Access opens in waves.
  4. The same email on the waitlist, your Claude account, and the Apple or Google account on the phone. Access is tied to that address.

When you are invited, you open the email on your phone, install the Duet app, and sign in. Anthropic says the app can take a few minutes to appear after you accept.

Price. During the preview, Duet is included with Pro and Max at no extra Duet fee.

Usage. It shares that plan’s limits, including the five-hour session window and weekly caps, and background work counts. Morning briefs and check-ins spend usage. Larger jobs — a financial model or a deck — take more model turns. Anthropic also says admitted preview users get one full limit reset (session and weekly). Expect to hit caps sooner than with chat alone if Duet is checking accounts in the background.

Team and Enterprise are planned later. They are not in this preview.

Claude Duet vs Meta Muse vs ChatGPT Dots

CNBC put Duet next to products that already have users: Meta said more than 10 million people in the US and Canada had set up Muse agents in roughly a month and a half, and Muse reached the top of Apple’s App Store after launch. OpenAI introduced Dots at its developer conference weeks after Muse. Anthropic is entering that market with a narrower workplace pitch and a closed preview.

None of these is a replacement for a record you can file. If the valuable output of a call is minutes and a follow-up, keep a notes workflow: how to write meeting minutes with AI and turn meeting notes into a follow-up email.

Safety, Connectors, and Payments

Anthropic’s safety section mostly extends systems it already uses for Claude and Claude Code, which Gizmodo called out as familiar rather than new. The concrete controls in the launch post are still worth listing, because they define what “asks first” means:

  • Approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, or deleting anything. Duet is supposed to show the exact action.
  • Off-limits even if you approve: trading securities, moving money between accounts, and using someone else’s account.
  • Credentials: Anthropic says Duet follows the Claude Managed Agents design and does not directly see passwords or sign-in tokens.
  • Sensitive data classifier: a dedicated check is meant to block sharing the strictest tier (card numbers, government IDs). Health and personal-finance details are supposed to go out only when you explicitly instruct that send.
  • Prompt-injection defenses drawn from Anthropic’s browser-use work, plus red-team and external penetration testing, under the public bug bounty.

Payments Anthropic describes for business purchases use Link (Stripe): Duet confirms the item, Link asks you to approve the spend, and payment uses a virtual card so your real card number is not shared. Shop Pay is the other checkout path mentioned. 1Password sign-in for saved logins is marked coming soon, and only with permission.

You can disconnect any connected app. Duet can read work that already lives in Claude; the help center says it cannot change that Claude work, cannot see every project or the files on your computer, and does not place phone calls or text other people. With approval, it can send email from accounts you connected. For what to connect first, use the AI agent permissions checklist.

Limits Anthropic Already Admits

This is an early research preview. Anthropic states, in both the blog and the help center, that Duet:

  • might misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent
  • can miss something that arrives between check-ins
  • is weaker at personal errands such as booking tickets
  • cannot show you its browser
  • lives in a separate app from main Claude for now
  • spends usage limits on background checks and large tasks

Review every draft and every approval. A proactive agent that is wrong about urgency is more annoying than a chatbot that waits to be asked — and more risky if you tap approve on autopilot.

How to Join the Waitlist

Anthropic’s setup steps, shortened:

  1. Open the Claude Duet product page and choose Join the waitlist.
  2. Enter the same email as your Claude account.
  3. Choose your plan (Pro or Max) and phone type. You can optionally say what you would hand off first.
  4. Submit. You get an email when it is your turn — not when you join.
  5. Open that email on the phone, install, and sign in with the Claude account tied to that email.

If nothing arrives, the usual causes are: you are outside the US, you are on Team or Enterprise, the emails do not match, or your wave has not opened.

What This Means If You Are Not on the Waitlist

Most readers of this post cannot open Duet today. The useful part of the launch is the job it is trying to do: a morning brief, a calendar clash caught before you ask, and a draft waiting when you come back.

You can do a narrower version of that job with tools you already control:

That is less autonomous than Duet. It is also available without a US Pro waitlist, and you can see the draft before anything is sent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is Anthropic’s research-preview AI agent. It sends daily briefs, watches connected work apps, completes tasks in the background, and asks before it sends, pays, signs, or deletes.

Who can use Claude Duet right now?

Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States who receive a waitlist invitation. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a date.

Does Claude Duet cost extra?

During the research preview, Anthropic includes it with Pro and Max at no extra Duet fee. Background checks and large tasks still consume that plan’s usage limits.

What model powers Claude Duet?

Anthropic designed Claude Duet around Claude Opus 5.5. In the preview you cannot choose a different model.

How is Claude Duet different from Meta Muse and ChatGPT Dots?

Duet is a workplace agent with no free tier in this preview and no mascot. Muse is Meta’s consumer agent with a free entry tier in its launch markets. Dots are OpenAI’s always-on agents on higher ChatGPT plans. See Meta Muse explained and ChatGPT Dots explained.

Can Claude Duet book flights or tickets?

Anthropic says personal errands such as booking tickets are not as strong, because the preview is built around work tasks.

Is Claude Duet the same as the Claude app?

Not during this preview. It has its own iOS and Android app and is also available on claude.ai, separate from the main Claude app. Anthropic says early usage will shape how the two come together.

Can Claude Duet see my passwords?

Anthropic says credential handling follows Claude Managed Agents, so Duet does not directly see passwords or sign-in tokens. 1Password sign-in for saved logins is listed as coming soon, and only with your permission.

What should I not let it do unsupervised?

Anything you cannot undo: sending email, paying, signing, or deleting. Anthropic also blocks some actions even with approval, including securities trading and moving money between accounts. Read the approval, then confirm.

Who Should Try Claude Duet First

Good early fit: US Claude Pro or Max users who already connect Gmail, calendar, and a handful of business tools, and who will read approvals instead of tapping through them.

Wait-and-see: Team and Enterprise admins, anyone outside the US, and anyone whose work depends on Microsoft 365 (not available in Duet yet) or on watching the agent’s browser (you cannot).

Not the audience Anthropic is optimizing for: people who want a free consumer agent for shopping and ticket booking. That is closer to Muse’s pitch than Duet’s.

Conclusion

Claude Duet is Anthropic’s entry into personal agents, aimed at professionals and small businesses rather than a cute consumer app. The preview is real, narrow, and easy to miss: US Pro and Max only, waitlist waves, Opus 5.5, shared usage limits, and an honest list of misses — misread threads, mistimed urgency, and weaker personal errands.

If you get an invite, connect fewer apps than the marketplace allows, and treat every approval as the product. If you do not, the same jobs — a call brief, meeting notes, a follow-up — still belong in a workflow you can open today.

Compare the field with Meta Muse and ChatGPT Dots. The model is Claude Opus 5.5. Before you connect inboxes, read how to scope agent permissions. If you live in Outlook or Teams, read AI agents and Microsoft 365. For notes and drafts that do not require an agent waitlist, use Knowant Notes and Write with AI.
