Claude Duet cannot use Microsoft 365 yet. Anthropic’s help center says so in the research-preview limits: some connectors, such as Slack, work with limits, and Microsoft 365 is not available. The main Claude app is a different product. Its Microsoft 365 connector can search Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive — on a work account, after an admin consents — and it does that when you ask, not as an always-on agent.
If your company runs on Microsoft 365, that split decides whether Claude Duet is useful this month. A marketplace logo is not the same as a live connector inside Duet.

What the Claude Connector Actually Does
Anthropic’s Connect to Microsoft 365 article (updated 8 September 2026) is the source for the main Claude app:
- It covers SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams in a work account tied to Microsoft Entra.
- Personal Microsoft accounts (
@outlook.com,@hotmail.com,@live.com) cannot be used. - An admin has to set it up first. On Team and Enterprise, a Claude owner enables the connector, and a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator grants tenant consent once.
- It is listed for Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.
- Claude only sees content you can already open. A private Teams channel you are not in stays closed.
- Access is on demand. Claude does not run background searches of the tenant.
- Search and analysis are the default. Sending email, changing the calendar, creating files, or posting in Teams requires write tools an admin turned on. Claude cannot change Teams settings or permissions.
- You can disconnect. Anthropic’s security guide says the connector retrieves data for the active question and does not cache file content; files stay in your tenant.
That is a search assistant with optional, admin-gated writes. It is not Duet’s morning brief.
Before you connect even this, read how to scope AI agent permissions. A work tenant is other people’s mail as well as yours.
Why Duet Is a Separate Answer
Claude Duet, opened 21 October 2026, inherits connectors you already attached to Claude — Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, DocuSign, Calendly are the examples in the Duet help article. The same article then lists the preview limit: Microsoft 365 is not available yet.
So a green Microsoft tile on a marketing page does not mean Duet is reading your Outlook overnight. Duet’s background checks apply to connectors it actually supports. Outlook and Teams are not in that set during the preview.
Other Duet limits that matter for Microsoft shops:
- Team and Enterprise Claude plans are not in the preview, which is where a lot of Microsoft 365 admins live.
- Access is US Pro and Max, by waitlist.
- Duet cannot show you its browser, and it may miss anything that arrives between check-ins.
- It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 with no model picker.
Until Anthropic says Microsoft 365 is in Duet, do not write an internal rollout that assumes the agent will brief leadership from Teams.
Slack Is Not a Substitute for Teams
If the company chat is Teams, connecting Slack in Duet does not move those threads over.
Even Slack is constrained. In Duet, Anthropic says Slack works with limits. On the main Claude product, the Slack connector that searches channels and DMs is documented for Team and Enterprise, and it needs the Claude Slack app installed and an owner to enable it. That is a second admin project, not a checkbox on a personal Pro account.
Use the chat system you actually have. Do not stand up a shadow Slack so an agent preview can see stand-up notes.
What to Do If Your Work Is in Microsoft 365
You can still get the brief and the follow-up without pretending Duet supports the tenant.
Ask Claude in the main app, after your admin has allowed the connector. Ask a specific question: the decision in a Teams channel, the attachment in a SharePoint folder, the thread in Outlook. You start the query. Claude does not sit on the mailbox between questions.
Keep a record outside the agent. For meetings, Knowant Notes can turn the recording into notes and action items you can search later. Pair that with meeting minutes with AI if you need a format your team already files.
Send mail yourself. Draft in Write with AI or from the notes, using how to turn notes into a follow-up email. If an admin later enables Claude’s write tools, you still read the message before it goes to Outlook.
Wait on Duet for Microsoft 365 until the help center drops the “not available yet” line. Gmail-based businesses can trial Duet sooner. Outlook-based businesses should not be the pilot.
Consumer agents such as Meta Muse and ChatGPT Dots are not a silent bypass around your tenant admin. If IT has not approved a connector, do not paste the contents of a confidential Teams channel into a personal bot to get a summary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Claude Duet work with Microsoft 365?
Not in the research preview. Anthropic’s Duet help article says Microsoft 365 is not available yet. Slack works with limits. Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive are among the connectors Duet can use if you already connected them in Claude.
Does Claude work with Outlook and Teams?
The main Claude app can, through the Microsoft 365 connector, on a work Entra account after admin consent. It can search SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Teams. Personal Outlook.com accounts are not supported. Write actions need an admin to enable them.
Does Claude search my Microsoft 365 tenant in the background?
No. Anthropic says the connector runs when you ask. It does not do background searches, and it does not cache file content.
Can I connect Microsoft 365 on the free Claude plan?
Anthropic lists the connector on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. You still need a work tenant and admin consent. The free plan does not include Claude Duet.
Why do I see a Microsoft 365 logo on agent marketing?
A logo on a connector marketplace is not the same as support inside a specific app. Confirm the product’s own limitations page. For Duet, that page currently excludes Microsoft 365.
What should a Microsoft 365 team use instead of Duet?
Use Claude’s on-demand connector if IT has approved it, and keep meeting notes and follow-up drafts in tools you control, such as Knowant Notes and Write with AI. Revisit Duet when Anthropic documents Microsoft 365 support.
Conclusion
Microsoft 365 support is already a pull connector in Claude: you ask, it searches, writes stay behind an admin switch. It is not yet a push agent in Claude Duet. If your work lives in Outlook and Teams, pilot the connector you have, not the preview that excludes it.
Read Claude Duet explained for the rest of the preview limits, and AI agent permissions before anyone clicks Connect on a tenant.
